Installing Applications

Coming from a Linux or Windows background, many people begin to wonder where to get and how to install applications on FreeBSD. Well, with FreeBSD most applications can be installed from the Internet so you don't have to find the tarballs. There are two different installation methods to choose from and they both do a great job dealing with dependancies.

Using Virtual Machines with QEMU

Samba as a WINS/NetBIOS Server

This guide explains how to setup Samba to be the network WINS/NetBIOS server and win every network browser election (for when two or more XP machines are on the same network and access is denied constantly comes up while trying to browse the network). This guide assumes you already have Samba installed from the ports tree.
